SCAR had a very successful Open Science Conference in Pucón, Chile from August 19-23 with approximately 1400 attendees. US-SCAR had a very well-attended lunchtime meeting to provide information about US-SCAR and SCAR. We were pleased to see many NSF Polar Programs program managers at the SCAR Open Science Conference, and US scientists had many opportunities to meet with them.

Recordings of the plenary lectures and mini-symposia are available at the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH) YouTube Channel. During the week of the OSC, SCAR also had business meetings for the Geosciences, Life Science and Physical Sciences Groups. The following week, the SCAR Delegates met in Punta Arenas, Chile. The Zoom meeting on October 29 will provide an overview of what is new with SCAR - we have a new Scientific Research Program (SRP), a new planning group to develop a Life Sciences SRP, new action and expert groups, a new SCAR member country, a new SCAR president and more. Please join us to learn what is new and find out how to get involved.

Save the date: SCAR is organizing the XIV International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences (ISAES) to be held August 18-20, 2025 in Punta Arenas, Chile. (Stay tuned for information on NSF/US-SCAR travel awards to this meeting in spring 2025.)

Sincerely, Deneb Karentz
US Delegate to SCAR
