The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC/UNESCO) announced today that SCAR will be a new Decade Collaborative Centre for the Southern Ocean Region (DCC-SOR) for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). The DCC-SOR will coordinate international Ocean Decade Actions related to the Southern Ocean.
The creation of the DCC-SOR resulted from the work of the Southern Ocean Task Force, a coalition of organizations brought together by SCAR to develop the Southern Ocean Action Plan – a roadmap of Southern Ocean challenges to support the UN Ocean Decade.
