Fifth International Polar Year (IPY5) Workshop
May 20-21, 2025
Virtual and In-person, Washington, D.C.
Planning is beginning for the Fifth International Polar Year (IPY5) that will be held in 2032-2033. International Polar Years are intended to make large advancements in scientific understanding by galvanizing the research community and fostering large-scale international coordination and national investments in polar science.
The National Academies is holding a workshop to discuss key research questions that could be investigated during IPY5. This will include highlighting recent advances and technologies, capabilities, the human capacity needed to conduct and support the research, and partnership and collaboration opportunities. Discussions will span a wide range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary topics and all interested in discussing early IPY5 planning are encouraged to attend.
This workshop will have some focus on U.S. researcher engagement in IPY5, including early career researchers, but international participants are also welcome to attend.
This will be a hybrid meeting with those attending in-person meeting in Washington, D.C. Agenda details are to follow. Register for virtual participation. In-person attendance is space limited. To inquire about in-person participation, email Morgan Disbrow-Monz at MMonz@nas.edu
