Antarctic Geologic Drilling Discussion Group

Thursday, December 18th, 2014, 8:00-9:30 am
Powell Hotel (California Room), 28 Cyril Magnin St., San Francisco

Please join other U.S.-based scientists at the Fall AGU meeting for coffee and discussion about future trends and new possibilities in geologic drilling in the Antarctic. This discussion group follows the Antarctic Geologic Drilling Workshop (http://agdw.uh.edu/) that took place in Houston during November, 2013. At that time, many participants called for a committee or working group that would lead ongoing community discussions about geologic drilling projects to be undertaken by U.S. scientists. With no currently funded drilling program targeting the long stratigraphic record proximal to the continent, discussion at the December 2014 gathering will focus on two main goals. 1) Making a step towards the creation of such a committee, including identifying those who will lead the effort going forward. 2) Discussion of projects currently in the development stage. Are new people interested in joining these projects? Are some groups trying to recruit more people? Is there a developing project that could benefit from help from a working group?

If you plan to attend, please reply to either address below. (But, come even if you don't RSVP; all are welcome.) If you can't come but would like to receive emails about the outcomes or future plans, please send an email letting us know.

Please forward this to anyone that may be interested.
