Fairuz Ishraque

Fairuz Ishraque is a glaciologist and geochemist with expertise in ice sheet modeling and the geochemistry of ancient ice. Working within NSF COLDEX (Center for Oldest Ice Exploration), his research investigates Antarctic blue ice areas and the mechanisms by which they preserve old ice at the periphery of the continent. His work combines continental-scale ice sheet modeling with ice core records and meteorite terrestrial ages to reconstruct the age structure of Antarctic ice. This research addresses key questions about where the oldest recoverable ice resides in Antarctica, how ice flow and ablation shape blue ice surfaces, and how these archives can extend paleoclimate records beyond the reach of conventional deep ice cores.
