Research Interests
James Karner is a planetary scientist and Co-PI on the NASA funded Antarctic Search for Meteorites (ANSMET) project for the US. Along with Co-PI Ralph Harvey, Karner is responsible for fielding a yearly expedition to blue ice areas in the TransAntarctic mountains in order to recover meteorites. The program has been continuously funded for over 40 years, has recovered over 23,000 samples, and ANSMET meteorites are the primary supply of planetary materials for scientific study to researchers around the world.
